Ep 21: All About Exoplanets

What are exoplanets? How do we find them? How many are there in our galaxy and what does this mean for finding life elsewhere?

Published by Tony Darnell on 18th Jul, 2016

Exoplanet astronomy is among the newest branches of science, with a history spanning only 20 years or so! Still, in a very short time, astronomers have learned so much: not only are there other planets orbiting other stars (something we didn't know until very recently), but that there are many, many, many of them!

Astronomers estimate that there are more planets in our galaxy than stars! In this week's podcast, Tony and Carol discuss this fledgling science and what we have learned so far about exoplanets, both from ground-based and space-based telescopes.
