about space robotic servicing the servicing of Landsat 7, I remember a top tier issue that came up when we (NASA’s Automation and Robotics Program) studied such matter some 25 years ago (or more). The issue is the all too frequent possibility that the ultimate construction of the spacecraft did not match the official design — due to last minute fixes and other smart decisions about the hardware that — for one reason or another — were not included in the final formal documentation. Hence the robot might be programmed to service the spacecraft of the official record, but not the one flying; hence, the vital importance to verify and cross check (by talking with all the people that one can find, who were involved in the system engineering of the flying article) and verify what the “Immutable” reality is likely to be.
